When travel is mentioned, people often think of visiting a place and taking photos to post on social media. Perhaps that’s why people put off travelling, feeling like it’s just a leisure activity that can be replaced with a little less stress. The truth is that travel is more than a leisure activity, and there are so many important reasons why you should stop putting it off. For those wanting to be persuaded, here are some key reasons why you should travel now.
You can never fully explore the world in a lifetime. With billions of people, hundreds of countries, thousands of cultures and different weather, landscapes and foods, there are so many interesting things to discover when travelling. Interesting places like the coldest city on earth and the hottest place on earth say a lot about how adaptable humans are. Some of these discoveries even help a person learn more about themselves.
A lot of things people know are assumptions and not the truth. What people see or hear can be misleading. Many organizations (particularly those in the mass media) are now known to hide the truth and only present information that fits their ideology. That is why it is important to travel and experience the truth for yourself. A person’s overall idea of a place may be negative because of the things they have seen or heard, but the reality of the place may turn out to be different than what the place was imagined to be.
So many people have intentions to travel but are waiting for the right time to set off. What you need to know is that the time to travel is never right. You just have to take the step. There’s always something that takes time and resources, so maybe you just have to compulsorily travel. Those who wait until graduation often find that they have to work now. Those who wait until they have enough money saved often end up spending the money on other pressing issues. Those who wait until retirement often find that their bodies are weak to embark on the adventures that make travel exciting. The list goes on, but the lesson is the same – there’s never a right time. Life is a risk and those who make the most of life are those who are not afraid to take risks.
Unfortunately, age catches up with everyone. Even the child born today will eventually grow old and die. This is one of the most important reasons why you have to take to the streets now. Many people wait until retirement to start traveling, but people who do often find that they should have started traveling 10 or 20 years ago. When you get older, you don’t always have the enthusiasm that you did when you were young. A lot of things don’t matter at this point. With stiff joints, brittle teeth, weak legs and limited eyesight, there is so much a person who has aged cannot do while traveling. But age limitations shouldn’t stop you from travelling. As long as there is life, there is always the possibility of travel.
At the end of the day everyone needs someone to love them and someone to share a lifetime with. Money often doesn’t fill that void of loneliness. Because of this, despite all their wealth, successful people often feel depressed. When you can’t find love in your immediate area, there is only one thing left and that is to travel. Perhaps the soul longs for a completely different person. A person from a different continent, race, eye color, skin color, or height. A person can fall in love with another person simply because of their accent. It happens.
People are often advised to find jobs they are absolutely in love with as they will do much better at it, but seriously, you don’t have to be very passionate about your job to be more effective. As long as you don’t hate it and as long as it provides the money needed to fuel your passion, it’s okay to do better. One thing that can help you get better at work is taking time off to travel. By traveling to a place you love with money from work, you will appreciate it and do better when you get back from vacation. Managers and CEOs can use this to motivate their employees. Not everyone wants to travel their whole life. Two weeks of travel can be happier for some people and months more effective at work.
Inspiration can come from many places. Movies, music, novels, paintings and pictures can all inspire a person, but these cannot inspire a person. Sometimes all the inspiration a person needs to achieve that life goal can be hidden in travel experiences. For writers, traveling to a certain place could be the inspiration needed to start the book that could turn out to be a bestseller. This also applies to artists, film producers, professors and other creative people. Apparently there’s more to filmmaking, but one will agree that Peter Jackson would not have been able to turn J.R.R Tolkien’s ideas into some of the world’s most popular films without traveling through New Zealand’s fjord-ridden countryside. Even CEOs and business owners can get ideas for expanding their businesses while traveling.
Human life is filled with so many experiences, many of which are easily forgotten. It’s impossible to remember every single experience in your life. Still, some experiences create memories that last a lifetime. One thing to count on for such lifetime memories is travel. You may already have your itinerary mapped out, but you don’t know what kind of experiences you’ll have on each and every adventure. The sunset that day could be the most beautiful you have ever seen. That waiter, waitress, or tour guide might turn out to be the friend you never had. Memories like that don’t go away easily. These are the kinds of memories a person recalls and their faces glow with excitement or they laugh out loud.
Education isn’t just about going to school to get a degree. It’s much more than that. Truth be told, real education happens outside of the classroom. Traveling exposes you to different cultures, different people, different languages, food, landscapes, music and much more. The history of a place can be taught in a class, but you never know that place for sure unless you have visited it in person. Important life skills such as social skills, perseverance, tolerance and independence is just a few of the things one learns while traveling. It’s like a life as a teacher. It’s interesting and the course never ends.
Of course you can sit at home, turn on the TV or iPad and watch videos all day long. Maybe you can even scroll through Facebook, see some pics on Instagram, or watch some short videos on Tiktok. We call these entertainments, and they really do have a purpose to serve at times, but none of these forms of entertainment offer the thrill that travel can compare. What could be more entertaining than watching an Aurora Borealis show or watching the sunset over a delicious dinner? What could be more entertaining than taking a hot air balloon ride over a mountainous landscape or an autumn road trip? What could be more entertaining than seeing a rich cultural offering at an event or immersing yourself in a Caribbean reef teeming with sea creatures? Even if the judge is an avid film lover or social media enthusiast, we still believe in travel.
